Because Wednesday night was the first night of Passover, I kind of missed LOST...which I was very upset about. I finally got to watch it on Saturday.
So, first off....
How on earth can dead be dead?? Because Locke looks pretty alive to me (so does Christian Shephard, for that matter). Which only sort of makes sense. Now, John Locke has always had a special connection with the island (gaining his ability to walk and whatnot), as has our dear friend Ben Linus...and Ben, as a child, was saved from a gunshot wound by the island. This gesture by the island (and Richard "Eyeliner" Alpert) changed Ben forever, took away his innocence, and made him an Other. Now, does that explain how Locke (and Christian) came back to life and al of a sudden know everything there is to know about the island?? Personally, I don't think so. There needs to be a very good explanation for Locke's vertical-ness, as well as his in-depth knowledge of the island and the smoke monster. Speaking of the smoke monster, Alex also looked very much alive. But, I have every reason to believe that she was just an illusion created by, or a manifestation of, the smoke monster as a part of Ben's "judgement."
First, I would like to say that, while I enjoyed the special effects, I kind of expected more and nothing quite so...cheesy. No offense, but Ben's "judgement" was a little bit of a downer for me (but not completely, I promise!). The smoke monster didn't do much at first - and that thing it did when it circled Ben and projected Alex at him...it's been done before - I'm pretty sure I've seen it somewhere else. Plus, we still didn't learn much about the smoke monster AND it wasn't really a judgement...it was more of a threat "Don't kill John Locke or I'll come to you as your dead daughter and kill you!" Another downer was the way he summoned the monster - how on earth does making water drain and then telling it where the heck he is summon the thing?? I did, however, enjoy seeing the underside of the temple, where the smoke monster comes from (kind of), and viewing a sort of connection between the statue and another part of the island! Plus, I liked seeing that Ben does, indeed, have a heart somewhere in him.
Which brings me to Penny and Desmond. I'm pretty sure everyone saw some of that coming (mainly Ben getting his ass kicked by Desmond after the former's attempted killing of Penny). But other than that: a) he SHOT Desmond, which I freaked about for a second, until I saw him laying on the ground not bleeding and b) Ben hesitated because Penny had a son. He seems to have a soft spot for small children, which warms my heart (but only a tiny bit). And speaking of Penny, I liked how this episode gave us more insight into the whole Widmore/Linus war. Thankfully, Ben has a teensy bit of a heart and saved Penny from being a casualty...
And that reminds me: the Rousseau thing. I'm glad he saved her and told her how to save herself. I'm glad we found out how Alex came into the care of Benjamin Linus (even though I'm still upset he felt that he had to take her away). Widmore forced him to kill a woman, but Ben didn't because she had a young child (sound familiar??). So, in some way, Ben is better than Widmore, but only by a smidge...
This, in a roundabout way, brings me to the planewrecked newbies freaking out on the beach. First off, Ben killed Caesar! And THAT'S supposed to be an apology?!?! What the heck! There was nothing wrong with the guy! He never did anything! Unless, we find out that some of the new people we've been introduced to work for the wonderful Charles Widmore....
How did I get to that?? Well, you see: that Ilana woman and the other guy (who is, as of yet, unnamed) somehow know about the statue (and, in turn, the temple...I think) and also have firearms and an unmarked box of unknown origins! They know a little too much and are a little too comfortable with the situation they're in to just be people who happened to be on that flight...
And one more thing: Lapidus and Sun. I hope Lapidus ends up okay...I like him. He's a pretty awesome guy - has been since the first episode we saw him in last season! I feel so bad for Sun - she comes back to the island, fully expecting to find her husband. She does, but I'm pretty sure she didn't want to find him in a Dharma Initiative picture from 1977. What I'd like to know with that whole situation is this: a) where did Christian disappear to? and b) how the heck does Locke know how to reunite Sun and Jin (which brings me back to the question: how the heck does he know everything all of a sudden)???
Overall, I like this episode! It was pretty good, despite the fact that I didn't get to see Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Juliet, Hurley, and co...
One more thing, though: Where on earth are Rose, Bernard, and Vincent...aka. the woman with cancer, the dentist, and the dog, for everyone who might have accidentally forgotten, which is highly plausible since they seem to have disappeared into nonexistence!!!!!
Oh! And the other day, I saw Rose in an episode of "Doogie Howser, M.D." - I was very excited =D
Until Miles talks to the dead person in the body bag in that Dharma van,
Kitty
ps. I found a pretty cool article online (I like it a lot because of the Passover reference!!):
